The weather may have been damp, but the enthusiasm was anything but. For the 2008 LCC Karting Challenge at Thruxton on 1 November, there was a record entry of 14 teams and a total of 55 drivers splashing about for the 2 hour endurance race at the Hampshire circuit's brilliant outdoor kart track. At the end of it all, Team TVR were the worthy winner, having covered 78 laps of the 1.089km track in 2:00:37.62 hours. Boxall Sayer A team ran them a close second, though, coming in just 11.65 seconds later, and having averaged only 0.1 kmh less over the distance. Hoyland Hell Raisers benifited from having LCC's John Powis as guest driver to finish third, a lap down, while of the other LCC teams Glen's C'Est La Vie were fifth at 2:00:40.11, Tristan's Veni Vidi Vici (not quite living up to their name) sixth with 2:01:15.20, Hugh's MLPA seventh with 2:01:22.75, and Jeremy Hoyland's second team, HMFC High Flyers, were ninth with 2:00:57.42 and three laps behind. The wooden spoon went to those great sports from the West Country, Devon Racing, coming home eight laps down but loving every minute of it! Fastest lap of the day was taken by MLPA's Charlotte Gilbert on lap 19 at 1:13.643 minutes, or 53.2 kmp; second best time was Paul Stevens from Kinsbourne Cars Racing with 1:16.861, or 51.0 kmp. As in previous years, all profits from the event will go to the LCC's chosen charity, the London Air Ambulance.
