CHAIRMAN'S TVR RUMBLES AGAIN Published: June 18, 2005

Although the TVR Tuscan Challenge is no more, Tuscans race on regardless - as LCC's Chairman, Hugh Marshall, proved at Castle Combe the other week. At the Castle Combe Special GT Championship on 30 May, the now almost ancient TVRs made up nearly a quarter of the grid ( seven out of thirty one cars), and were pitted against a daunting if eclectic range of competitors that included Ferraris and Posrches as well as track day specials such as Radicals and Jades. Nevertheless the Tuscans, and Hugh, acquitted themselves well. Starting twenty first on the grid, Hugh spent the opening laps of Race 1 in close combat with two Radicals. Although these were very quick through the corners and were excellent under braking, the raw power of the Tuscan and its superior top speed enanbled Hugh to keep them off his back, crossing the line tenth overall, and the fifth Tuscan home. Race 2 was even more closely fought than the first, so Hugh was more than happy to improve his psotion by its close, again coming in tenth overall, but this time third in the Tusvan class. An excellent result, especially since it is eight months since he last so much as sat in a race car. |
