Steve Long and Wendy Gibson have kicked off this season's BMW Rally Championship with an exciting, if not entirely successful, first round at Market Harborough on April 9. Their event started brilliantly and at the end of SS4 were 4th overall and leading the BMW beginners' class by a healthy 34 seconds. But as the rally progressed, the weather deteriorated, the course turned horribly slippery, and just yards from the finish of SS8, they decided to cut a corner that was better left uncut. The result was a trip into the ditch and the end of their rally. Shame, but to quote Napoleon, he who makes no mistakes, makes nothing.
