DACRE HARVEY - IN MEMORIAM Published: August 7, 2003

It is with the profoundest sense of shock that we report the sudden death of Dacre Harvey, Vice President of the London Car Club and for many years its heart and soul. Dacre will be remembered with great fondness by many people in motorsport, for his participation in rallying, sprints and trialling, both as a competitor and later as an organiser of the hightest ability. He was distinctly of that generation that believed that it was important to put back into the sport even more than he had taken out. We shall miss his many reminiscences of the sport during its more "colourful" and intimate days, as well as his cool headed approach to problems. If he got a little more flustered later on in his "career", especially preparing the results for the Sporting Trials, he was also always prepared to smile at his own foibles. Dacre is a person that will be greatly missed by many. AUGUST 2003 Glen McKeown - LCC Club Treasurer, colleague and friend to Dacre Harvey From Anna Imrie - Club Secretary : The London Car Club deeply regrets that it has recently been informed that Dacre's funeral took place on 30 september 2003 at Mortlake. There were no friends invited - and no family members were present. The club is aware that very many of Dacre's friends and motorsport collegues would have wished to be there. However, it is most grateful for the numerous letters of condolence received. These will be passed on to Dacre's immediate family and copies kept for the club archive. |
