The LCC's Endurance Karting Event at Thruxton on Saturday concluded with a not entirely unexpected victory for the Freeling-Wilkinsons; but it was also one of those events where everyone went away happy. The first of what is hoped to become an annual event, the Endurance race attracted a fine turn out of twelve teams from all corners of the country, and of all levels of experience. This was definitely an event where it was not the winning that was important, but the taking part! On a cold but bright day, the half-hour practise session was enlivened by some unexpected damp patches but as the track dried and the drivers got into their stride, lap times soon tumbled, until by the end every teams was getting round the circuit a good five seconds quicker than they had been at the start. The race used the full 1066 metre circuit, with its mini-Suzuka bridge and tunnel combo, and at the end of the two hours, everyone was glowing with a mixture of exertion, wind-burn and sheer fun! The Freeling Wilkinsons were unarguably the class act of the show, and finished a lap up on the second placed team, Brookland Motors, with Chas's Team in a third two laps behind them. Nevertheless, everyone ran a good clean race, so much so that the circuit manager, who must have seen it all, commented on all the drivers' exemplary on-track behaviour. The final icing on the cake is that donations from the teams has enabled the club to raise £256 for the London Air Ambulance. Be sure to nmake a note in your diary for next year! |
