FIRST TIME OUT - FIRST IN CLASS Published: November 6, 2005
Email
Nigel Payne came first in class at his first ever motorcycle sprint event at Eelmoor Park on 9 October. Running in the "Road Legal, over 900cc" class, Nigel had six seperate runs at the 220 yard course on his Suzuki GSXR1000 K5, reputed to be currently the fastest road bike around. Experimenting with using two, and then just one gear for the whole distance, on his fifth run he was able to get his time down to below 8 seconds (7.898 to be precise) even though his terminal velocity was ironically his slowest - if 93 mph in 220 yards could ever be considered slow! This was also enough to put Nigel fourth quickest overall, with fastest TOD going to a Kawasaki ZIR in the Super Street Unlimited class at 7.099 seconds and 114 mph. |
