Former Graham Hill Trophy winner and Honorary LLC member Tom Kimber-Smith has had a somewhat mixed season so far in LMS2. After an outstanding performance with Cheever Racing during the Rolex 24 hour at Daytona in January, the results at the Virginia International Raceway on 28 March came as a big disappointment. Tom had qualified the Cheever Racing/Crown Royal Cask Coyote in 8th place and was running 2nd for several laps during the early part of the race. Sadly, after the driver change-over, his team-mate made an error which damaged the car and dropped them back a lap, a position from which they could not recover, finishing 15th. Back in Europe at Spa on 24 April, Tom raced for Embassy Racing in a WF01 Zytec, an qualified 6th. But he never got a chance to drive a lap in the race itself. Before the first driver change-over and during a safety car period, the car was rear-ended and booted into the barrier, terminating their race then and there. It was a bitter disappointment after such a promising start to the race. You can find out more on Tom's own website: www.kimber-smith.com. |
